Elimination Communication Resources

Anyone doing Elimination Communication in a Western country will benefit greatly from support and ideas from others who engage in the same practice.

In the physical absence of tribe & tradition, ECers have built vast communities throughout the world via the following resources. Each resource listed below contains a live link to a website that will get you connected with your new community.

As your journey will vary from others’, and also from time to time, ongoing support and connection in some form is essential to EC (and most things parenting).

Scroll down for an abundance of resources that EC Simplified has gathered for you, so you can focus on what’s important.

My Private EC Support Group

My book, EC Simplified (5th Anniversary Edition), comes with a private peer-based support forum, the lively and helpful private Go Diaper Free support group on Facebook. When you purchase any of our Book Packages, you get instant access to the support group as well.

Books About EC

When you emerge from the bubble of having a newborn & have more time to read, or if you just want more detailed testimonials, proof, and philosophy now…I recommend the following books:

EC Simplified: Infant Potty Training Made Easy (for babies 0-18 months), 5th Anniversary Edition by Andrea Olson (2011-2016).

The Tiny Potty Training Book: A simple handbook for non-coercive potty training (for toddlers 18 months and up) by Andrea Olson (2015).

Infant Potty Training: A Gentle and Primeval Method Adapted to Modern Living by Laurie Boucke (2008)
Highlights: extensive scientific and cultural research & examples sections, spanning the globe; many photos of all the positions; gently written; wonderful, almost encyclopedic, resource; breaks EC into in-arms phase and potty phase.

The Diaper-Free Baby: The Natural Toilet Training Alternative by Christine Gross-Loh (2007)
Highlights: breaks EC into baby’s developmental stages; countless testimonials from ECing families interspersed throughout the book; easy to read; not too long.

Diaper Free: The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene by Ingrid Bauer (2006)
 Highlights: well-researched, thorough, and informative.

Infant Potty Basics: With or Without Diapers…the Natural Way by Laurie Boucke (2003)
Highlights: a nice, brief how-to guide by a pioneer of the EC movement.

My EC Podcast

My EC podcast is a free audio show that will teach you the basics about EC and potty training, share some interesting interviews with experts in the field, and introduce you to a new way of thinking with EC.

The Baby Wearer Potty Talk Forum – This is a huge forum, so follow these instructions to find the Potty Talk & EC sections:
1. Create an account here first.
2. Log in to the forum next.
3. Then, go to this link to see the sub-forum, Potty Talk, where new threads on EC are interspersed with conventional potty training threads.
4. You can also click on this link to see only the top EC-
related threads.

We’ve divided this section into two categories: Online Group Organizers (who connect you with in-person groups in real life) and Facebook Groups & Pages (we all know what those are). For email lists, see the next section.

Online Group Organizers

DiaperFreeBaby is the top online EC group organizer. By looking on their site, you can see if there is an email group in your area, most hosted on Yahoo! Groups or BigTent, and many of which hold in-person meetings and playdates at people’s homes in the local community. DiaperFreeBaby also hosts online chats and can link you to a Mentor in your area, if any. How? Go to their Local Groups page here and then select your location from the list on the right entitled “Worldwide Groups.”

AttachmentParenting.org also has a good listing of local AP-oriented groups.

Facebook Groups & Pages

The “modern” way to keep in touch, share photos, and talk about EC online….Facebook.

Email Lists / Groups

Two main choices here: BigTent and Yahoo! Groups….

Yahoo! Groups

A popular way to join communities of ECers and converse with people from all over who are doing what you’re doing!

EliminationCommunication Yahoo! Group (main group)

EC Yahoo! Groups by region (in the future DiaperFreeBaby may move to BigTent, below)

EC in the UK Yahoo! Group

EC in Australia Yahoo! Group

EC in Italy Yahoo! Group (in Italian)

EC in France Yahoo! Group (in French)

NaturalInfantHygiene Yahoo! Group (NIH)

IPT Late Starters Yahoo! Group (unmoderated, so not all advice is EC-specific, but some
advice-givers are 100% EC)

EC Swap Yahoo! Group – buy, sell, trade your gear

BigTent Groups

These are just like Yahoo! Groups, but hosted on a new, cool site with a slightly different format. NOTE: The DiaperFreeBaby organization is switching all of their local Yahoo! Groups to BigTent over the course of 2011 & 2012. Your region will come up as sub-groups after you join the main group below. So, you can join either Yahoo! or BigTent…or both!

Join DiaperFreeBaby’s active BigTent EC Group here. Click “sign up” under the login box on
the right and follow along from there.
